Jay Yogishwar Datta Dayar Tuja Aek Jagamo Pratipar
Atryansooya Karee Nimit Pragatyo Jagkaran Nischit
O! The Supreme Saint (Lord of Yogies or Victorious Lord Yogii), may Thy Glory and Victory prevail. You are the only saviour (protector) of this Universe (You are the only one to look after the whole Universe).
You made Atri(Rhushi) and Anasuuyaa, the instrument to manifest yourself definitely for the welfare of the Universe and mankind.
Stanza 2:
Brahmahariharno Avtar Sharanagatano Taranhar
Antaryami Satchit Sukh Bahar Sadaguru Dwibhuj Sumukh
You are the incaranation of Lord Brahmaa (the creator), Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva (Hara=the transformer or destroyer). You are the saviour of those who seek your protection and shelter
You can read and reach the minds and hearts of everyone. You are the true happiness and eternal bliss within. In material appearance (externally) you are a good master with two hands and a pleasant and charming face.
Stanza 3:
Zori Annapurna Kar Mohya Shanti Kamandal Kar Shohay
Kyoya Chaturbhuj Sadabhuj Sar Anantbahu Tu Nirdhar
You have in your hand the bag, feeding the whole Universe and a peace giving water-pot adores your hand.
Somewhere you appear with four arms and other times you manifest yourself as having six arms. Surely you have countless arms.
Stanza 4:
Aavyo Sharane Bar Ajan Authha Digambar Chalya Pran
Sunee Arjun Kero Saad Reezyo Poorve Tu Sakshat
O! Lord Dattaatreya (Diga(m)bara this ignorant child has surrendered to you for protection and shelter. Please arise else I am breathing my last.
In the past, you responded to Arjun's call and being highly pleased with his devotion, you personally bestowed upon him immense wealth and exceptional supernatural and superhuman powers.
Stanza 5:
Didhi Rudhhi Sidhdhi Apar Ante Mukti Mahapad Sar
Kidho Aaje Kem Vilamb Tuj Vin Mujne Na Aalamb
You granted him an unshakable position of power and lastly liberated his soul from the cycle of birth and death.
Why the delay today? I have no succour (support) without you (you are my only refuge).
Stanza 6:
Vishnusharm Dwij Taryo Aem Jamyo Shradhdhma Dekhi Prem
Jambhdaaitythi Trasya Dev Kidhi Mher Te Tyon Tatkev
You liberated the Brahmin Vishnusharma and seeking his love and devotion, partook at his obsequies offerings.
When the Demon Ja(n)bha harassed the Devas (Gods) you bestowed mercy on them immediately without any delay.
Stanza 7:
Vistari Maya Ditisut Indrakare Hanavyo Turt
Aevi Leela Kai Kai Sharv Kidhi Varnave Ko te Sarv
Spreading your divine powers (maayaa) you had the demon killed instantly at the hands of Indra (King of Devas)
O! Lord Shiva (Sharva) your divine acts and miracles are countless. Who can aptly describe and narate them all?
Stanza 8:
Dodyo Aayu Sutane kam Kidho Aene Te Niskam
Bodhya Yadune Parshuram Sadhydev Prahallad Akam
King Aayu ran to you for the boon of a son. You not only granted him his wish but also liberated him from all desires.
You enlightened King Yadu and Parshuraam, Saadhyadeva and Prahlaada to liberate them from desires.
Stanza 9:
Aevi Tari Krupa Agadh Kem Soone Na Maro Saad
Dod Anta Na Dekh Anant Maa Kar Adhvach Shishuno Anta
Such unfathomable is your grace, why do you not heed to my call? (You have abundant compassion for many people. Why are you not listening to my call/prayers?)
Run to my aid, O! Limitless Lord (Anaat! Do not see my end Do not destroy this child halfway!!
Stanza 10:
Joi Dwijastree Kero Sneh Thayo Putra Tu Nihisandeh
Smatrugami Kalitar Krupar Taryo Dhobi Chhek Gamar
Witnessing (Recognising) the devout love and devotion of a Brahmin woman, you were certainly gracious enough to take birth as her son.
O! Instant gracious, compassionate and merciful Lord, saviour in this kaliyuga, you liberated the illerate and backward washerman.
Stanza 11:
Petpidthi Taryo Vipra Brahmansheth Ugaryo Xipra
Kare Kem Na Mari Vhar Jo Aanigam Aekaj Var
You relieved a Brahmin of his abdominal colic (i.e. acute stomachache) And saved a Brahmin sheriff. (In Gangapur Brahmakshetra a brahmin, fed up of his acute stomach pain was about to end his life by jumping into the river Godavari. But Shrii Nrusi(n)ha Saraswati Swami Maharaj stopped him from doing so and cured his ailment. A Brahmin businessman named Vallabhesh was killed by dacoits while he was on his way to Kuravapur for brahmins group feast. Shreepad prabhu appeared and killed the dacoits and brought back Vallabhesh to life)
(Why dont you help me?) Why not rescue me? Look at me just once!!
Stanza 12:
Shush Kasthane Aanyo Patra Thano Kem Udashin Atra
Jarjar Vandhya Kera Swapna Karya Safar Te Sutana Krutsna
You revived a piece of dead wood which started bearing (green) leaves. Why are you so indifferent here (to me) You fulfilled the cherished dreams (of having motherhood) of an aged barren lady (past child bearing age) and blessed her with a son.
Stanza 13:
Kari Dur Brahmanano Kodh Kidha Puran Aena Kod
Vandhya Bhens Doozavi Dev Haryu Daridhra Te Tatkhev
Curring the Brahmin of leucoderma (Kodha = A disease which causes white patches on the skin) fulfilled his cherished desires (A brahmin named Nandi having leucoderma spots on his body performed penance to please Goddess Tulajapur Bhawani who directed him to approach Shri Nrusi(n)ha Saraswati Swamii Maharaaja at Gangapur and Swami Maharaja cured him of his ailment).
You made a barren buffalo milk yielding (revived lactation) and instantly alleviated poverty (of a destitute brahmin family in Gangapur)
Stanza 14:
Zalar Khai Rizyo Aem Didho Suvarnaghat Saprem
Brahmanstreeno Mrut Bharthar Kidho Sajivan Te Nirdhar
Pleased with just Lima Beans (vhalore) meal, you lovingly bestowed upon the family a pot full of golden treasure. You undoubtedly restored to life the dead husband of a brahmin lady (in Gangapur)
Stanza 15:
Pishach-Peeda Kidhi Dur Vipraputra Uthadyo Shoor
Haree Vipramad Antyaj Hath Rakshyo Bhakta Trivikram Tat
Breaking, the spell of evil spirits cast on a brave Brahmins son you saved (revived) him. (A Brahmin named Gangadhar living in village shirol had lost five sons under the spell of evil spirits. Swami Maharaj saved one of his two sons born later).
You humbled the proud Brahmins (debating arrongantly the meaning of scriptures) at the hands of an untouchable and thus protected your devotee Tri-Vikrambharati (who did not want to take part in the debate and arguments).
Stanza 16:
Nimeshmatre Tantuk Aek Phochadyo Shrishaile Dekh
Aeki Sathe Aath Swarup Dhari Dev Bahuroop Aroop
Lo! In the twinkling of an eye, you made Tantuka reach Shree
You took eight different forms simultenous O Formless Lord! you can take several forms.
Stanza 17:
Santoshya Nij Bhakta Sujat Aapi Parchao Saxat
Yavanrajni Tari Peed Jatpatni Tane Na Cheed
You satisfied your staunch devotees by performing yourself astonishing acts of Divine Grace.
You relieved a Muslim King (who was the washerman blessed in his previous birth by nrusiha Saraswati Swami Maharaj of his ailments. You have no aversion (dislike/hate) to any caste or creed.
Stanza 18:
Ramkrushnaroope Te Aem Kidhi Lilao Kai Tem
Tarya Paththar Ganikavyadh Pashupankhi Pan Tujne Sadh
You performed numerous miracles in the form of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna.
Lord Rama brought Ahalya back to life from a rock; Enlightened Pingala, the prostitute; transformed a wild life hunter into a great saint Valmikii. Under your influence beasts like elephant Gajendra, vultures like jatayu also behaved saintly.)
Stanza 19:
Adhamodharan Taroo Nam gata Sare Na Sha Sha Kam
Aadhivyadhi Upadhi Sarv Tare Smaranmatrathi Sharva
Your name transforms the worst sinners into saints. What cannot be attained by chanting your name?
All mental and physical ailments, agonies, miseries and all material problems end only by remembering you. Oh! Lord Shiva!
Stanza 20:
Moothchot Na Lage Jan Pame Narsmarane Nirvan
Dakan Shakan Bhensasur Bhoot Pishacho Jand Asur
Remebering you evil spirits and witch craft, Black magic cannot harm or affect human beings and they can attain eternal bliss or moksha.
Witches, Ghosts, Goblins; Evil spirits & Demons, vanish at once hearing Datta-dhuuna (continuous chanting of Lord Datta Treyas name).
Stanza 21:
Nase Moothi Daine Toort Dattadhoon Sambharta Moort
Kari Dhoop Gaye Je Aem Dattabavani Aa Saprem
vanish at once hearing Datta-dhuuna (continuous chanting of Lord Datta Treyas name).
He, who devoutly sings this Datta Baavanii with lighted incense imporves his life on earth and beyond.
Stanza 22:
Sudhare Tena Banne Lok Rahe Na Tene Kyoye Shok
Dasee Sidhdhi Teni Thay Dhukhdaridhra Teno Jaay
Nowhere any griefs remain for him and he has not to worry about nor will he face any sorrow or miseries.
Achievements will be servant like at his command and he will be able to get rid of poverty, misery and scarcities.
Stanza 23:
Bavan Guruvare Nit Nem Kare Path Bavan Saprem
Yathavkashe Nitya Niyam Tene Kadeena Dande Yam
One who recites Datta Baavanii with love and devotion fifytwo times on fiftytwo consecutive Thursdays as well as when one is free and regularly as a daily ritual, he will never be punished by Yama.
Stanza 24:
Anek Roope Ae ja Abhang Bhajata Nade Na Maya-Rang
Sahasra Name Namee Aek Datta Digambar Asang Chhek
He, the formless is the eternal one in several diversified forms. Worshipping Him will (become free from illusion) keep away all wordly attachments (says Rang Avadhuut)
Thousand names speak of that nameless one but Datta = the sky clad = is one and absolutely aloof from all attachments!!
Stanza 25:
Vandu Tujne Varamvar Ved Shvash Tara Nirdhar
Thake Varnavta Jyashesh Kon Ronk Hu Bahukrutvesh
I bow down to you again and again. Vedas are certainly your breaths.
If Shesha (the serpant God with a thousand fangs/tongues) gets tired trying to describe your glories aptly, who am I, a poor guy who has taken several births (trying to understand you and describe your glories aptly)?
Stanza 26:
Anubhavtruptino Udgar Sunee hase Te Khase Mar
'Tapsi' Tatvamasi Ae Dev Bolo Jay Jay Shrigurudev
This is an expression of experience and deep satisfaction. One who laughs at it (ridicules it) will surely get punished.
O Tapasi! (Tapasi is the one who performs tapasya i.e. penance. Here Pujyashree addresses to his costudent, friend and devotee, late Shri Amrutlal Nathalal Modi. You yourself are that Lord Supreme. Sing aloud the Victory and Glory of Shree Gurudeva.
